Welcome. This new video series dives headfirst into the Bible, examining the verses that your preacher at your weekly church service wouldn’t touch with a ten foot poll. Its time people really knew what their cherished book actually had to say, not just the cherry picked nice bits that priests and pastors love to regurgitate. If you believe the bible is god’s word, then you ought to know about all the crappy immoral things he has to say.
Bible Verse #1 Deuteronomy 25: 11-12
“When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smitten him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.”
“When two men fight with one another, and a wife of one man stops the fight and grabs the other man’s genitals, You are command to cut her hand off and not feel bad for her”
What immediately comes to mind is why such an odd scenarios was even considered and why such a harsh punishment commanded? Why is god angry with this man’s wife? Is it for interfering in a fight? Is it for grabbing the mans junk? Was this a common occurrence amongst women of this time grabbing stranger’s “secrets” in public in front of their husbands? We are made to believe that this verse, and all other verses contained within the bible are not only inerrant but also the inspired word of god. Why would a god, the creator of the entire universe feel the need to specify such a bizarre scenario involving a penis grabbing referee, and a punishment of bodily amputation, and to top it all off, as if to rub salt into a wound, we are to no feel any pity for her. Id love to see this verse, and any verse that I bring up in subsequent videos, brought up in a Sunday church service. Could you imagine the faces of the parishioners as the preacher tries to explain this gem to his wide-eyed congregation? This my friends is bronze aged immorality and stupidity and 1 of thousands of reasons why nobody should take this book seriously.
Bible Verse #2 Psalms 137: 9
“Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones”
“People who murder babies by throwing them unto rocks will be happy”
Some of you may cry out and admonish me for taking this particular verse out of context. Lets take a look at what’s actually being said here. In the preceding verses god is supposedly enraged at the evil Babylonians who have enslaved his precious Israelites, and so god decrees that those who smash up the children of the Babylonians, will doing god’s will. Let me get this straight: The loving god most people profess to believe in, the supposed author of the whole universe, from galaxies to atoms, humans to amoebas,
a) is a vengeful dictator
b) demanding and supporting of infanticide and genocide
c) unabashedly takes certain people as his favourites while ruthlessly casts away others
d) believes that the sins of the father pass onto those of the innocent children
Loving god my ass. Lets say the Babylonians were absolute savages, and god wanted men to clean up their own problems rather than doing it for them… is the solution really to murder infants? How can anyone justifying killing the innocent to punish the guilty? This fictitious character is a moral monster and anyone who defends these stories as righteous, should be ashamed of themselves.
Bible Verse #3 Matthew 10: 34-37
“Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I cam not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that liveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me”
“I, Jesus, have not come to earth to bring peace, but rather pit children against parents. Those within your household will be your enemy. If you don’t love me more than you love your family, you are not deserving of my love and attention.”
For anyone who says that they follow not the old testament but instead follow Jesus in the new testament, here is an example of what jesus thinks of the family unit. If these words are to be believed the very words spoken by Jesus (which i see no reason to actually make believe so), then this man who was really 100% human and somehow also 100% god believed that his role was not to bring peace within our families, but to bring strife and violence. For most, your family makes up the most trusted and loved people you know, so why would a loving god send himself to earth to break this up? These verses parallel the attitude found in many of the world’s nutty cults in which people are taught to break up earthly family and join the collective of believers who praise a spiritual leader. Some might argue that what Jesus is really saying here is that your love for him should be so great that the love of your family should pale in comparison, but I disagree. The first few verses speak of pitting family members against each other, not a decree of how much you should love god. If these passages are not what they seem to be and are not to be interpreted as they are plainly understood, then this Christian version of god truly is the author of confusion.
For believers, these three uncomfortable passages (among many) are not the smoking gun that suggests the bible’s divine inspiration should come into question, but rather that god works in mysterious ways, or that we have to interpret out the meaning we want to hear from them, rather than actually reading what it says. If god truly does exist, and he has left us with a book of his commandments and pronouncements, then we should expect a book so full of wisdom, clearly, and morality far superior to what we have yet dreamed up. What we find instead is a book exactly what we expect from an ancient society who knew little of the universe, human psychology, and justice.
